State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs): Pending.

Continuing the emphasis on strengthening systems that started at last summer's event, this year Alt+Shift is partnering with Michigan Alliance for Families to look more specifically at redefining family partnerships in educational systems.

Families are an integral part of school systems and their engagement at multiple levels can improve student outcomes. Yet, family engagement is sometimes thought of as 'extra' or 'nice to have' instead of an essential part of school culture.

This event is designed for teams of diverse perspectives from Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) and member districts. Teams, along with Michigan Alliance for Families parent mentors, will think systemically about family engagement practices and how to strengthen instructional initiatives.

Teams must include an:

  • Administrator (e.g. director, supervisor, etc.
  • Instructional leader (e.g., consultant, coach, coordinator, etc.)
  • Implementer (e.g., teacher, ancillary staff, etc.)

Teams are highly encouraged to include:

  • Non-school personnel family members
  • Family engagement coordinators or committee members
  • Others
